Man Utd: Four ‘major targets’ after Ederson revealed as seven likely exits to increase ‘£200m budget’

According to reports, Manchester United have identified four major midfield targets beyond Ederson as they prepare for a busy summer transfer window. The club is expected to be highly active ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Michael Carrick oversaw a remarkable turnaround during the 2025/26 season, but United are still looking to strengthen several areas of the squad as they prepare to compete on multiple fronts next season.
After revamping their attack and signing a new first-choice goalkeeper last year, the club’s main focus this summer is reinforcing the midfield.
United are expected to make at least two midfield additions following Casemiro’s departure, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson Silva believed to be close to joining the club.
There is also reported interest in Mateus Fernandes of West Ham, who could leave after the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship.
United remain interested in Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, although Manchester City are currently leading the race for the England international. Forest’s reported £120 million valuation is also viewed as a significant obstacle.
Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba have also emerged as potential midfield targets.
Reports suggest Manchester United have a transfer budget of around £200 million this summer, with additional funds expected to come from player sales.

The departures of Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are expected to significantly reduce the club’s wage bill. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford is reportedly available for transfer following his loan spell at Barcelona.
United are also believed to be willing to listen to offers for goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana, while midfielder Manuel Ugarte and forward Joshua Zirkzee could also leave if suitable offers arrive.
Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Manchester United reportedly viewing him as an ideal replacement for Casemiro.
However, two major obstacles remain. The first is Tchouameni’s substantial salary package, while the second is Real Madrid’s continued insistence that they intend to keep the French international.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained that Manchester United admire Tchouameni because of his winning mentality, elite quality, international experience, and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.
Despite United’s interest, Real Madrid have repeatedly maintained both publicly and privately that they have no intention of selling the midfielder.
