Man Utd approach to sign Van Dijk’s ‘excellent’ partner – He will be free agent
Soon-to-be free agent being ‘approached’ by Newcastle United and Manchester United; probable deadline established.
Stefan de Vrij, a defender for Inter Milan, has apparently had “many approaches” from clubs around Europe, including Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The seasoned center back is presently six months into his current San Siro deal and is still in talks to extend his four-year stint with the Serie A powerhouses. SportItalia claims the 30-year-old has asked Inter for more time before deciding definitively on his next move.
De Vrij, whose contract with the club he signed on a free transfer from Lazio in 2018 expires at the end of the current campaign, is said to have requested a deadline of mid-February before making his decision.
The Dutch international is said to be interested in moving to Villarreal and his old team Feyenoord, and Manchester United, Tottenham, and Newcastle are all thought to be willing to give him the chance to try his luck in the Premier League – with the Magpies being described as ‘particularly interested’ in the defender.
Federico Pastorello, De Vrij’s agent, evaluated the player’s current circumstance and connected it to the future of one of his current teammates at the San Siro in an interview with Italian network Rai Sport.
“I don’t know if (Milan) Skriniar will move to PSG by the end of the January transfer market, but what I can say is that the Inter managers called me in these hours to expedite the contract extension of De Vrij, who is my client, he added. He wants to remain at Milan, but other clubs, particularly those in Spain, have been requesting him for a while.
