Wout Weghorst is the striker that Manchester United wants to sign.The striker who is most likely to go on loan to Man United in the January transfer window is Wout Weghorst.

With a probable loan deal for Burnley striker Wout Weghorst, Manchester United is moving forward.

The 30-year-old Dutch striker Weghorst is currently on loan at Besiktas, where he has eight goals in 16 appearances. However, United boss Erik ten Hag sees Weghorst as the perfect support player for Anthony Martial.

Weghorst is available for €10m to Besiktas, as Burnley did not include a recall clause. The absence of a recall option might necessitate talks between the three teams.

On Thursday, the day before Weghorst scored the game-winning goal for Besiktas against Kasimpasa, Burnley reportedly got a query from United over Weghorst.

To Senol Gunes’ dismay, Weghorst appeared to wave goodbye to the Besiktas supporters. Gunes indicated that in order for Weghorst to bid the audience farewell, he must also address the club. “That did not take place formally. I was informed of the development, but it’s still unclear.”

Budgetary restrictions and a dearth of affordable top-tier choices have led United to seek to sign a No. 9 on loan. Weghorst’s salaries have been fully covered by Besiktas, although a loan fee has not been paid.

Weghorst supports Ten Hag’s transfer policy of giving preference to players he knows or who attended school in the Netherlands. Weghorst and Ten Hag are both from the province of Twente.

Weghorst was acquired by Burnley for £12m in January 2022, however the Clarets were relegated after six seasons in the Premier League because he managed just two goals in 20 games.

In their thrilling 2-2 draw with Argentina in the World Cup quarterfinal, the Netherlands’ Weghorst not only scored both goals, but he also successfully converted his penalty in the shootout.

Despite Weghorst’s World Cup credentials, he started the tournament behind Tottenham reject Vincent Janssen and Cody Gakpo, who United were interested in signing from PSV Eindhoven before they decided against it.
