Mbappe to Real Madrid: Could it really happen?

Kylian Mbappe may have turned down a move to Real Madrid last summer when he was set to become a free agent from PSG, but the France international continues to be linked with the Bernabeu side.

Mbappe’s decision to sign a new contract with the Parc des Princes side sparked anger in Spain, with supporters burning his jersey and openly mocking his decision to remain with a club that has yet to win a Champions League title.

And there remain signs that he is not totally settled at PSG, with an outburst in the autumn over a wage delay suggesting that he remains a player that a club like Real Madrid can hope to attract.

According to Fichajes, Mbappe has laid down two conditions for a deal to be done, with the France international demanding that Los Blancos add two of his close friends to their ranks to attract him.

It is stated that Achraf Hakimi is a player that Mbappe wants to see back at the Bernabeu if he is to join, with the players having struck up a strong relationship in France.

Furthermore, the PSG striker is also to see the club make a move for Milan defender Theo Hernandez.

Mbappe to Real Madrid: Could it really happen?

Unfortunately for Madrid, if there is any truth in these reports, it is likely to put Mbappe out of reach. Financially, Los Blancos remain stretched because of their renovation of the Bernabeu, although their situation is nowhere near as grave as that of Barcelona. Nevertheless, the signing of Mbappe alone would test their resources.

FootballTransfers values Mbappe at €147m – the most valuable footballer in the world – while Theo Hernandez has an expected transfer value of €59m and Achraf of €60m.

Even if Madrid were able to sign the trio at their going rate, that would total close to €270m, which is a figure they simply don’t have at hand.
