What’s stopping United from chasing 12-goal English striker Ivan Toney? Explained
Man United are known to be looking to strengthen their attacking line. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s dramatic exit, they are quite short on strikers.
In the past few months, United have been linked with Brentford forward Ivan Toney – and that seems to be a good fit on paper.
The 26-year-old is the third-best Premier League scorer with 11 goals to his name in 15 games this season – plus one goal in the League Cup.
His price tag could be prohibitive – in the summer, Brentford were rumoured to be asking between £30m and £50m – but even that is not the main reason why Toney might not be on the move any time soon.
In November, the FA charged Toney with 232 alleged betting rules breaches, adding a further 30 charges last week.

England-based players are banned from making any type of bet on football, asking others to do so on their behalf or sharing privileged information for those purposes.
For reference, a couple of Boston United players were banned for five months after being found guilty of 757 breaches of the rules.
Toney has until January 4 to respond to the charges which is why he is able to play for Brentford right now. There’s huge uncertainty over his availability after that which makes any transfer unlikely at this stage.
