How Manchester United might line up against Newcastle with Shaw likely to start at left-back and Martial fighting for a comeback

After suffering an injury in the 2-1 victory against Everton, ANTHONY MARTIAL is hoping to play against Newcastle on Sunday

The 26-year-old Frenchman was substituted by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 29th minute of last Sunday’s game, who went on to score the game-winning goal and record his 700th club goal.

He was also not present as Man Utd defeated Omonia 1-0 in the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag, the manager, has however not ruled out Martial playing against the visiting Magpies on Sunday.

Prior to Thursday’s European victory, Ten Hag stated: “Today is not a training day; we’ll decide before Sunday.

“He and I have had numerous conversations regarding the injuries this season.

It’s very discouraging for him. But I believe he performed admirably in every minute, including Sunday.

He played very well and provided the assist for Antony. He got frustrated because he fell out.

In addition, the Dutchman said of Anthony Martial before Newcastle: “Anthony Martial can be [available], but we have to wait to see how he progresses in the next hours.”

If he is able to make a quick recovery, he may also start in the middle of the field with Marcus Rashford to his left and Antony to his right.

Jadon Sancho is a mainstay of the speedy front three, which Ten Hag seems to prefer. Together, they have scored 11 goals in all competitions.

As a result, Ronaldo would return to the bench of substitutes, where he has spent the majority of this season.

The 37-year-old wasn’t exactly self-aggrandizing while facing Cypriot resistance.

Casemiro might take up residence at the base of the midfield as the star of Brazil starts to play more frequently.

The 30-year-old might give Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen the flexibility they need to take control of the final third.

Following Tyrell Malacia’s horrific week against Omonia, Luke Shaw will start at left-back.

After coming off the bench against Everton and in Europe, Raphael Varane might rejoin the team.

In relation to Lisandro Martinez, the Frenchman has displayed encouraging prospects.

Additionally, Diogo Dalot has been the right-back of choice.

It should come as no surprise that David de Gea will remain in goal.

Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek, and Aaron Wan-match Bissaka’s against Newcastle might have been too soon for them.

If Martial isn’t deemed fit enough, Ronaldo might start up front instead.

While Varane is sleeping, Victor Lindelof could hold his position.
