Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd legend’s reaction after outrageous skill in training
Rarely has a player made as many headlines without playing a single minute than Cristiano Ronaldo did following the Manchester derby.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute during Man Utd’s 6-3 humiliating at the Etihad on Sunday.
Cameras spotted the Portuguese superstar looking miserable on the bench, whilst chatting with Casemiro who was also benched. When asked why he didn’t bring Ronaldo on during the game, manager Erik ten Hag claimed it was “out of respect for his big career“.
Ronaldo may well get an opportunity in the Europa League on Thursday as United travel to Cyprus to face Omonia Nicosia.
Ten Hag: Ronaldo isn’t unhappy
But any suggestions that Ronaldo is unhappy with his current role at the club is wide of the mark, according to Ten Hag.
“I don’t see that he is unhappy,” said Ten Hag. “He is happy, he is training well and he is enjoying.
“It has nothing to do with the future, what’s happening for January or next year,” Ten Hag said of his decision to keep Ronaldo on the bench.
“He’s not happy that he didn’t play Sunday, don’t get me wrong, but the question was about his mood in training, where he’s happy. Of course, he wants to play and he’s p***** off when he’s not playing.”
And the suggestion that he’s happy in training was evident on Wednesday.
Ronaldo appeared in good spirits in training ahead of the trip. And when he produced a flip-flap nutmeg on Lisandro Martinez, he responded brilliantly.
It really is great seeing a smile back on the face of one of the greatest players to have ever played the game.
However, United legend Roy Keane insisted that United have shown ‘disrespect’ to one of their greatest ever players by not selling him in the summer.
“I think United have shown nothing but disrespect to Ronaldo,” Keane said.
They should have let him go when the opportunity came. He did have options, I know that for a fact.”
